BJP is winning Elections, but is it Losing the Economy?
Election after election, the BJP has expanded its footprint across India and established itself as the country's dominant political force. But political success and economic success are not always the same thing. For years, Indians have been told that we are the world's fastest-growing major economy. Yet many citizens continue to ask difficult questions. Why are quality jobs still hard to find? Why is private investment not growing faster? Why are so many young Indians looking abroad for opportunities? A strong economy cannot be measured by GDP growth alone. It must also be measured by rising incomes, employment opportunities, business confidence and the ability of ordinary families to improve their standard of living. India possesses enormous advantages: a large domestic market, entrepreneurial talent and a young population. The question is whether we are doing enough to convert these advantages into long-term prosperity. Elections can deliver power. Only sound economic policy can deliver prosperity. As citizens, we should be willing to celebrate political achievements while also asking hard questions about economic performance. Democracies become stronger when governments are held accountable not only for winning elections, but also for improving lives.
